POLAND -- Robert E. Johnston, 85, passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2021.
Robert was born Nov. 18, 1936, in Hillsville, Pa., the son of Charles W. Sr. and Sarah G. Dudley Johnston.
He retired from General Motors in 1998 after 30 years of service. He worked part-time at Countryside Farms, picking fruits and vegetables and driving for the hayrides. In his spare time, Robert loved gardening and canning. If you knew "Poppy," you knew you were getting vegetables from his garden.
Robert will always be remembered lovingly by his two daughters, Pamella (Frank) Sturgiss-Notareschi of Poland and Christina (Mark) Lanterman of Poland; three stepchildren, Charlene Maple of Youngstown, Rene McCarthy of Hubbard and Shawn (Chrissy) McCarthy of Boardman; six grandchildren; Carmel (Eric) Gonzalez, David (Jessica) Sturgiss, Jenna (Mathew) Lanterman, Sasha Johnston, Mark Lanterman Jr. and Madisyn Lanterman; five step-grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred G.; second wife, Harriet M.; two children, James R. Johnston and Kimberly J. Johnston; son-in-law, David Sturgiss; and two brothers, Robert G. Johnston and Charles W. Johnston Jr.
Private services were held for the family.
Arrangements were entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave., Boardman.
