Mary Jane Lewis 1941-2021

McDONALD — Mary Jane “Janie” Lewis, 80, entered peacefully into eternal life at 8:48 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2021, at Continuing Healthcare at the Ridge.

She was born Feb. 26, 1941, in Youngstown, the daughter of the late George D. and Mary Eleanor McCloud Cox and was a lifelong area resident.

Mary Jane was a 1959 graduate of McDonald High School, where she excelled in basketball, and was a 1962 graduate of Trumbull Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse at Trumbull Memorial Hospital for 33 years before retiring.

She was active with the McDonald Football Boosters. Janie enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren in all of their sporting events while at McDonald. Janie could be counted on to cook turkeys for kindergarten Thanksgiving, as well as gallons of sauce and meatballs for band booster concessions. Janie enjoyed traveling, playing piano, and board games and cards with family and friends.

Mary Jane was married to Raymond E. Lewis on Sept. 13, 1963; they were married for nearly 57 years before his passing July 18, 2020.

Together they shared the love of two children, John (Jill) Lewis of McDonald and Terri (Matt) Hull of Warrenton, Va.; a sister Marsha Crawford of Niles; and four grandchildren, Amanda and Joshua Hull, and Morgan and Brooke Lewis.

Besides her parents and husband, Ray, Mary Jane was preceded in death by a brother, George D. “Sammy” Cox Jr.

A caring cremation will take place.

A celebration of life for family and friends will be observed from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 2021, at Amen Corner, 20 W. Main St., Girard, OH 44420.

The family requests that memorial contributions take the form of donations in Janie’s name to the Down Syndrome Association of the Valley, 945 Boardman Canfield Road, Unit 12, Boardman, OH 44512.
