Phyllis Jean Berlic, 1930-2021

NILES — Phyllis Jean Berlic, 91, a beautiful soul and a woman of great faith, transcended to her heavenly home Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021.

She was born Sept. 9, 1930, in Champion, the daughter of the late Harold and Margaret Hite Emery and lived there for more than 20 years before residing in Niles.

Phyllis graduated from Champion High School, where she and 10 of her favorite girlfriends formed the Jive Club; and remained friends and met as a group up until a few years ago. She took great pride in her friendships past and present. Phyllis was a majorette and had the great honor of being crowned homecoming queen.

Phyllis was known for her great taste in dressing to the nines no matter the occasion.

She was a professional woman for many years having worked at the Warren Tribune Chronicle; secretarial positions held in Florida for six years and retiring from St. Joseph Riverside Hospital in Warren as director of volunteer services, which was a position she considered her pride and joy. After retiring, Phyllis volunteered for many years.

Phyllis was a former member of Champion Presbyterian Church and attended Believer’s Church in Warren.

She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, flowers, and was an avid reader.

Fond memories of Phyllis will forever be remembered by her children, Vicki Lee (Gary) Fellinger of Texas, Sheri Lyn (Vincent) Rago of Austintown, Pamela Jean (Robert) Bosko of Pittsfield, Pa., and stepson, Martin (Marcia) Berlic; 10 grandchildren, Amy Stetson, Erik Harding (Rye), Frank Harding (LeAnna), Lance Harding, Shannon Yonnotti, Kristian Bosko, Shaun Bosko (Melissa), Nicole (Brian) Thaxton, Oliver Berlic and Stephanie Berlic; and several great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her companion of many years, Andrew Vonovick of Austintown.

Besides her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her stepmother, Lavina Emery; her first husband, Melvin Morgan; her second husband, Martin Berlic; and by two brothers, Clifford and Robert Emery.

Family will receive friends from 5 until 5:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2021, at the Staton-Borowski Funeral Home. A funeral service with Pastor Bill Carter officiating will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2021, at the funeral home.

Burial will take place at noon on Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2021, in Champion Township Cemetery.
