Ronald Scarnecchia Sr. 1931-2021

NILES — Ronald “Hondo” Scarnecchia Sr., 89, of Niles, died Thursday, July 29, 2021, at Continuing Health Care of Niles.

He was born Aug. 27, 1931, in Niles, the son of Sam and Mary Scarnecchia.

Ron was a 1950 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and a Niles postal worker for 31 years, retiring in 1986.

He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Niles, Italian Club, San Fellippe Neri Lodge, played in and organized several golf leagues. He also enjoyed playing cards, traveling, bocce and avid Boston Celtics fan.

Ron was a proud veteran of the Marine Corps having served during the Korean War.

Although Ron had an active lifestyle, spending time with his family was the most important thing in his life.

He will be deeply missed by a son, Ronald T. Scarnecchia Jr. and his wife, Anita of Jacksonville, Fla.; two daughters, Kim Taylor and her husband, David of Niles and Susan Scarnecchia of Warren; a brother, Sam of Hollywood, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Dominic Taylor, Phillip Scarnecchia and his wife Erin and Michael Scarnecchia; and two great-grandchildren, Lucca and Emiliana.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Vincent A. Taylor; a brother, Joseph Scarnecchia; and a sister, Anita Chase.

Committal services will be held in Niles City Cemetery Chapel on Friday, Aug. 6, 2021, at 11 a.m., where Ron will be honored for his military service by the Trumbull County American Legion Honor Guard.
