Phillip F. Chuey 1922-2021

POLAND — Phillip Frederick Chuey, 98, passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at Hospice House in Poland.

He was born Oct. 2, 1922, to Steve and Mary Chuey.

Phil was a graduate of Poland Seminary High School, where he was class president for three years. He played varsity basketball and was elected to the school’s athletic hall of fame.

He played one year of varsity basketball at Youngstown State University before entering the Army Air Corps in World War II, where he became a 1st lieutenant.

Phil was a Certified Public Accountant, lawyer and assistant professor at Youngstown State University. He had a degree in business administration from YSU, where he was a member of Phi Gamma Fraternity, and a master’s degree from Kent State University.

Phil was a member of Poland Presbyterian Church.

He shared 63 years of marriage with his wife, Marilyn Jones Chuey. The couple had two children, Wendy and Phillip Jr. Phil was a very kind family man. He enjoyed and participated in many sports, including basketball, track, baseball, tennis and golf.

He leaves his wife, Marilyn; daughter, Wendy; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Phillip Jr.; and his brothers, John, Steve, and Frank.

Arrangements were handled by the Ohio Cremation and Memorial Society / Bowser Funeral Services in Niles.
