Joseph J. Hanna 1943-2020
YOUNGSTOWN — Joseph J. “Joe” Hanna, 76, passed away early Wednesday morning, April 15, 2020, after a courageous three-week battle from COVID-19.
Joe will always be remembered by his family and friends for his larger-than-life presence, generosity and smile.
He was born Nov. 13, 1943, in Youngstown, the son of Henry and Elizabeth Koury Hanna and was a lifelong area resident.
Joe leaves behind to hold onto his memories, his wife of over 31 years, the former Nancy Popovich, whom he married June 18, 1988; his beloved daughters, Theresa (David) Dirisamer of Columbus and Elizabeth Hanna of Youngstown; two brothers, Henry (Janice) Hanna of Michigan and Victor (Lynn) Hanna of Athens; two sisters, Sara (Anthony) Rochon of Florida and Maurina “Nina” Hanna of Boardman; and his mother-in-law, Phyllis Popovich of Youngstown, along with many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, and then his father-in-law, Ray Popovich, who passed away July 27, 2020.
Due to quarantining and social distancing circumstances during the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, the family of Joseph Hanna, will have a memorial liturgy Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021, at 4:30 p.m. at St. Maron Maronite Catholic Church, 1555 S. Meridian Road, Youngstown. Because of current health concerns, only friends and family who have been vaccinated for COVID-19 are welcome to join us for the mercy meal immediately following the liturgy at Antioch Hall.
