Inez Aikens 1938-2021

YOUNGSTOWN– Inez Aikens, 82, departed this life Friday, July 30, 2021, at her home, with her son by her side.

Ms. Aikens was born Sept. 3, 1938, to Booker Thomas Martin Sr. and Susie F. McDaniels Martin in Florence, Ala.

She was a graduate of East High School. She was formerly employed by attorney Harshman, Northside Hospital in the billing department, and worked more than 30 years as an inspector for Packard Electric.

Sister Inez Aikens served the Lord faithfully as a member of McGuffey Road Church of Christ. She served on the Ladies Day and Benevolence committees. She also was a Sunday school teacher, always attending Sunday school, and he taught vacation Bible school.

She enjoyed bowling, singing with the church choir (Spirit of Truth), going to bingo, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving son, Mark Aikens Sr. and his wife, Donita Aikens; her sister, Mildred Jackson of Elyria; three grandsons, Jason and Mikhael Aikens, both of Youngstown, and Anthony McCray of Columbus; five great-grandchildren, Amya, James Jr, Da’Quam, Stephon and Xavier; one great-great-grandson, Tru; a special niece, Cheryl (Cherrie) Hill, whom she thought of as a daughter; and host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Booker T. Martin Jr.; her sister, Ruby Hill; and her grandsons, Mark Aikens Jr. and James A. Douglas Sr.

A homegoing celebration will be held Friday, Aug. 6, 2021, at 11 a.m. at McGuffey Road Church of Christ, 1101 Miami Ave., Youngstown. The family will receive friends Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
