Sara Jane Johnson 1925-2021

CAMPBELL — Mrs. Sara Jane Johnson, 96, received her angel wings Wednesday, July 7, 2021, and transcended to her heavenly mansion.

Sara was born July 7, 1925, in West Middlesex, Pa., the fourth child born to Frank and Mable White Boatwright. She was reared between Lowellville and Struthers, and graduated from Struthers High School. On Nov. 15, 1947, she married Albert Johnson. They made their home in Youngstown and were the proud parents of three children, Linda Rochelle, Albert Jr. and Joy Adrienne Johnson.

She worked many years for Strouss-Hirshberg in downtown Youngstown, and also for the Mahoning County Board of Elections as a poll worker. She was a lifelong member of Price Memorial AME Zion Church, where she served as an usher and worked with the free lunch program. She thoroughly enjoyed canning, cooking and taking care of her grandchildren, often attending their basketball and baseball games and dance recitals.

She leaves to cherish her memory and mourn her passing, her children, Albert Jr. (Francenia) Johnson and Joy (Ralph Jr.) Burton; grandchildren, Ryan and Taylor Burton, Ebony Williams and Ivory Davis; nieces, Jacqueline Carter and Karen McMullen; nephews, Clyde (Gayle) and Gerald (Vilma) Allen, Albert (Gayle) Monroe, Herbert (Carol) McMullen; son-in-law, Hershel Clady; and a host of great-nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert; a daughter, Linda Johnson Clady; and her siblings, Helen Suber, Frances Allen, Lucille McMullen and Benjamin Boatwright. Services were held Friday, July 16, 2021 at L.E. Black, Phillips and Holden Funeral Home.

A service of love and dignity were entrusted to L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home.
