Emma Franklin 1929-2021

YOUNGSTOWN — Mrs. Emma “Ma Ma” Franklin, 92, was called home to be with the Lord Monday, July 12, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

Mrs. Franklin was born April 21, 1929, in Whatley, Ala. Emma married Louis Franklin on June 1, 1946. Their union was fruitful and blessed with 12 children.

Mrs. Franklin was a homemaker. She loved cooking, sewing and watching old Western movies; however, her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, many of whom she helped rear.

She was extremely generous to all and her home was always open to her family if they needed a place to stay. Emma was very loving, patient and funny. She also told the best stories! Mrs. Franklin loved the Lord with everything in her, which she instilled in her family. Mrs. Franklin will be deeply missed by all who loved her.

She leaves to cherish her beautiful memory, her daughters, Loraine Smith, Annie “Ruth” Franklin, Helen Franklin and Carolyn “Gwen” Franklin, all of Youngstown, and Betty Simmons of Warren; a daughter-in-law, Judy Franklin of Youngstown; two sons, Edward (Janet) Franklin of Youngstown and Timothy Franklin of Pittsburgh, Pa.; 22 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Franklin was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Franklin; twin infant daughters; sons, Chester Franklin, Danny Franklin and Joe Franklin; and a son-in-law, Charles Simmons.

We will love and hold our dear sweet memories of our “Ma Ma.”

Humbly submitted by the family.
