Bruce W. Smith 1945-2021

YOUNGSTOWN — Bruce Ward Smith, 76, was greeted by death Friday, July 16, 2021, with his family by his side, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

He was born March 18, 1945, in Aliquippa, Pa., to parents Sarah Lee and Henry Smith. Bruce grew up in Youngstown and graduated from North High School in 1963.

Bruce served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he went on to work for Conrail Railroad, the U.S. Postal Service and AT&T.

He was a lover of black and white movies, particularly Westerns, and Cleveland sports, especially his Browns. Bruce could often be found enjoying a hand of cards, watching sports, dancing, singing, and listening to music with friends and drinking an ice cold Miller Genuine Draft.

Bruce was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Lee; his father, Henry “Polk” Smith; his stepparents, L.A. Lee and Rose Smith; his brother, Donald Lee; and the love of his life, Catherine Smith.

Bruce is survived by his sister, Betty Ann Lee; his children, Emmanuel (Denise) McIntosh, Renne Johnson, Antoinette (Benjamin) Hodo, Charise King, Evelyn Mohammed, Ali Mohammed, Monique (Jeffrey) Schwehm, Bayan (Kimberly) Mohammed, Bianca Smith and Bruce (Angelica) Smith.

Memories of Bruce also will live on through his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of extended family and friends.
