Margaret E. Andello 1923-2021

GIRARD — Margaret Elizabeth Andello, 97, passed away peacefully Friday, June 25, 2021, with her family by her side.

Margaret was born Sept. 11, 1923, the daughter of John and Sofia Remner Schaner.

Margaret was a graduate of Girard High School, and then like most young women in those days, worked “supporting the boys” in factories during World War II. It is there that she met, with the encouragement of her father, her husband, Samuel J. Andello.

They were married on her birthday, Sept. 11, 1942, and shared 45 years together until his death March 12, 1987. After her marriage, she became a homemaker and kept the books for her husband’s contracting company, while also serving her best role in life, mother.

She was a member of St. Rose Church in Girard and volunteered her time at St. Rose School while her children attended, before her husband Sam told her in the 1980s that it was “time to go home” to St. Anthony of Padua Church. She remains a member today.

After the death of her husband, Margaret met, while doing one of her favorite things — shopping, her companion Dominic J. Lucarelli. Dominic and Margaret enjoyed traveling, concerts in the park and decorating for every holiday. They enjoyed 18 years together before Dominic’s death July 19, 2008.

Margaret enjoyed playing her organ, baking, gardening and sports. To this day, at 97 years old, she could tell you any current sporting news.

But, as she said, her greatest joy in life was her family. She was kind beyond measure.

Margaret leaves to cherish her memory, her son and daughter-in-law, David F. and Patricia Andello of Youngstown; and her daughter and loving caregiver, Kathleen J. Andello of Girard; and, as she would say, the loves of her life, her six grandchildren, Vickie (Mike) Hill Glass, Gina (Bobby) Camardo, Wendy Andello Jancinga, Bridget Hill, Timothy (Mary) Andello and Eryk (Ashley) Forte; and 11 great-grandchildren, Richard (Hannah) Hill, John (Samantha) Hill, Aidan Glass, Christopher Janciga, Dylan McCale, Angelina Camardo, Catherine Janciga, Angelo Camardo, Garrett Glass, August Forte and Elie Forte. She was eagerly awaiting the arrival of her first great-great-granddaughter, her new birthday buddy, Charlotte Hill, who will be arriving in September. She is also survived by her sons-in-law, James Forte and Ronald Hill; her sister-in-law, Ann Schaner; and many nieces, nephews and friends whom she loved dearly.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 45 years, Samuel J. Andello; her companion of 18 years, Dominic J. Lucarelli; her beloved daughter, Annette M. Andello Forte; her brothers, Fred Schaner and Henry Schaner; her sisters, Sue Pope, Hilda Roskos, Mary Yane and Mildred Sorrentino; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Joseph and Maddelena Chicarelli Andello; her brothers-in-law, Michael Andello, David F. Andello and John Andello; and her sisters-in-law, Mary Andello, Evelyn Andello, Gladys Fossesca and Ann Marriotti.

The Andello family would like to extend a very special and heartfelt thank you to Margaret’s doctor of more than 30 years, Dr. Glenn Novak, who treated her as if she were a family member, as well as Dr. Prakash Roy and Dr. Wahoub Hout, who treated her with wonderful care for years.

Family and friends will gather from 10 to 11 a.m. at Schiavone Funeral Home, Wednesday, June 30, 2021, followed by a prayer service with Monsignor Zuraw officiating. Burial will be in Tod Homestead Cemetery.
