Mary Ellen Csernik 1935-2021

BOARDMAN — Mary Ellen Csernik passed away 11:37 a.m. Thursday, May 13, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. She was 85.

Mary Ellen was born Sept. 2, 1935, in Struthers, the daughter of the late James and Jessie Lenney Casey.

She was a graduate of Niles McKinley High School. Earlier in life, she was employed at the former Packard Electric. After she met the love of her life, Mary Ellen became a loving wife, mother and homemaker.

Mrs. Csernik was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish. She enjoyed being around a table with those close to her playing bingo and cards. Mary Ellen was always known to be spirited and a little feisty. She let you know where you stood and those around her knew how much she loved them.

Most of all, she loved sitting on the porch with her husband, surrounded by family and friends, catching up on the day’s events or telling old stories about the neighborhood.

She met her husband, Stephen Csernik, while at a local dance. They were married on May 24, 1958, and he passed on Feb. 20, 2007.

She is survived by a daughter, Cynthia (David) Benko of Boardman; four sons, Richard (Daniela) Csernik of Boardman, James Csernik of Boardman, William Csernik and his fiancee, Debbie, of Howland, and Kevin Csernik of Boardman; a sister, Elizabeth Budrevich; two brothers, Charles and James Casey; eight grandchildren, James Csernik Jr., Stephen and Nicholas Csernik, Shiann Fiorentino and Gavin Csernik, Jenna and Jared Benko, Daniel Csernik; as well as three great-grandchildren, Ava and Ana Csernik and Landon Fiorentino.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mary Ellen was preceded in death by two sons, Thomas and Lawrence Csernik; four sisters, Doris, Shirley, Vera and Eileen; and three brothers, Bill, Tom and Dave.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 2021, at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, 915 Cornell Ave., Youngstown 44502. Calling hours will be one hour prior to Mass in the church.
