Man pleads guilty in Sebring arson case

YOUNGSTOWN — Derek G. Rinehart, 28, of East Florida Avenue in Sebring, pleaded guilty Monday to attempted aggravated arson, intimidation, inducing panic and obstructing official business for a January 2020 incident in which he threatened to set his grandmother’s house on fire.

Rinehart will be sentenced 10:30 a.m. May 18.

Police successfully removed Rinehart from the home after about five hours of police negotiations. Several streets had to be closed after Rinehart made the threats and refused to come out.

Rinehart told police he had a weapon and had poured gasoline on the floor.

His attorney, Thomas Zena, sought a sanity evaluation a year ago.
