Elmer J. Ardale 1925-2021

BOARDMAN — Mr. Elmer J. Ardale, 95, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2021, at his home.

Elmer was born Aug. 26, 1925, in Youngstown, a son of Andrew and Elizabeth Szabo Ardale. Elmer was a lifelong Youngstown resident.

Elmer was a World War II and Korean veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps. He was an aircraft mechanic serving in the European Theater during World War II working on B-26 aircraft. He received six Bronze Stars and Victory Medals for both campaigns. He left the service as a sergeant in the military. Elmer was a member of the B-26 Marauder Club and the AOPA.

He was a member of the Hungarian Presbyterian Church his entire life and was a past elder of the church. Elmer was a recipient of the key to the city of Youngstown during the WW II Memorial Bridge dedication. He was an airline mechanic out of Pittsburgh Airport for Allegheny and U.S. Airlines, retiring in 1991.

Elmer is survived by two daughters, Diane (Ralph) Ford of Canfield and Denise (Steve) Peterson of Haddonfield, N.J. He also leaves two sons, David Ardale of Struthers and Donald (Gloria) Ardale of Boardman. Elmer also leaves his grandchildren, Laurie, Michelle, Christopher, Kelly, Michael, David Jr., Daniel, Andrew, Amanda, Ashley and Katelyn. He also leaves nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Donna Taafe; and second wife, Dorothy Ardale. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, a sister and one granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 24, 2021, at the Hungarian Presbyterian Church in Youngstown. Family and friends may call a half hour prior to the service at the church. Please follow all social-distancing and mask protocol during the service.
