Trina Loria Dixon 1942-2021
EDMOND, Okla. — Trina Loria Dixon, 79, passed away peacefully, Sunday, March 7, 2021, at her home, due to complications of Alzheimer’s. She was surrounded by family and her beloved pets.
Trina was the daughter of the late Harry and Doris Loria and a 1960 graduate of Salem High School. After high school, she attended Mount Union College in Alliance as a music major; however, she was drawn to another creative pursuit. She left college to train as a cosmetologist at Lewis, Weinberger and Hill School of Cosmetology in Youngstown and that launched her lifelong passion.
While in school, Trina met Jon Dixon of Boardman, whom she married and had two daughters, Ronda Rakes (Rick) of Smithfield, Va. and Terri Knighton-Christian (Russ) of Edmond, with whom she lived.
Trina honed her craft as a hairdresser in the home until her daughters graduated from Boardman, then became an instructor at Victor George Cosmetology in Youngstown. After many years of marriage, Trina and Jon went their separate ways and Trina met Paul Jenkins. Starting anew, they relocated to Edmond, where Trina continued her instruction of cosmetology students. She loved sharing her passion with new hairdressers and barbers alike.
Another passion of Trina’s was music. She and the girls sang numerous trios and enjoyed music in their home as the girls grew. They regularly stacked as many records on the stereo as possible, singing and dancing joyfully. She sang in churches throughout her life, including with her mom and daughters at Salem’s First Methodist Church and as a part of the Youngstown Symphony Choir. In her later years, she and Paul formed a gospel group, Glory Bound, with his brother and sister-in-law. At her funeral, we were blessed to hear Trina sing her recording of “In the Garden” — not many of us are blessed to sing at our own life celebration.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and her beloved pets, Sinbad, Poppie and Scoop. She and Paul shared many miles in their tractor trailer, seeing the country through the windshield. She was a two-time cancer survivor and enjoyed participating in the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life.
In addition to her daughters, she leaves behind her husband of 31 years, Paul Jenkins; and her stepdaughters, Loriann Johnson (Joe) and Lisa Starrett (Larry) of Kansas, and Shannon Jarrett (Tim) of Michigan; granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Hannah of the home; and great-grandson, Connor of Virginia. She was preceded in death by stepson, Paul Jenkins III.
Most importantly, Trina loved God and lived a faithful life. She worshipped her Lord and brought her daughters to love the Lord as well.
The family would like to thank Excell Hospice of OKC for their amazing assistance and guidance during our most difficult time. They stepped in for the last few months of Trina’s life and were a godsend when we needed it most.
A Celebration of Life was held Friday, March 12, 2021, at Community Church, Guthrie, Okla.
