Thomas G. Hathhorn 1939-2021

CANFIELD — Thomas G. Hathhorn, 81, passed away Monday, Feb. 1, 2021, at Hospice of the Valley Hospice House.

He was the son of the late Paul and Marybelle Hathhorn and a 1957 graduate of Boardman High School. He completed a B.S. degree in business from Ohio State University, where he was a proud member of the OSU Marching Band. His career was spent as a loan officer at several local banks.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Linda Osborne Hathhorn. His first wife, Bernice “Bonnie” Hathhorn, preceded him in death, and he is survived by their children, Jeffrey Hathhorn of Glenshaw, Pa., and Gayle Carter of Hilliard. Tom is now watching over his beloved grandchildren, Brooke Hathhorn, Brianna and Ian Carter, and his sister, Patricia Hathhorn Stringer. Among those surviving include Linda’s sons, Mark Fosnaught, Brent and Katy Fosnaught; their children, Billy and Vivienne; and Linda’s sister, Lori Osborne.

Tom was a friend to many and is remembered for his quick sense of humor. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, as he had a strong devotion to his loyal community. Tom contributed much time to the Boardman Rotary as he was committed to the challenge of bettering our world. He had a lifelong love of music and belonged to several choral ensembles. Later, he took a fancy to community theater. Most notably, he played the character Norman in “On Golden Pond.” All of this involvement was interlaced with a good game of golf.

To honor Tom, a small family gathering took place at Davis-Becker Funeral Home, where Jeff Harrison, pastor of West Austintown First United Methodist Church, officiated. A celebration of his life will be held at a future date.

Contributions celebrating Tom’s life and service are appreciated and can be made to West Austintown First United Methodist Church, Mahoning Valley Second Harvest Food Bank or Hopewell Theatre.
