MESA, Ariz. -- Sandra L. Carr, 74, passed away Sunday evening, Feb. 14, 2021, at Mountain Vista Medical Center.
Sandy was born Aug. 28, 1946, to Jacob and Bertha Thomas in Lowellville and was a lifelong Youngstown resident.
As one of four siblings, she is survived by her two sisters, Elizabeth Bozic (Matt) and Shirley Ciccone, and a baby brother, Jacob "Jack" Thomas (Cathy).
She was married to Gerald Joseph Carr, her one and only lifelong love, who preceded her in death in 1996.
Sandy leaves behind their two daughters, Cynthia Carr, and her three children, Vanessa and Alex Graves and Alicia Carr of Tempe, and Candace Carr Strauss, son-in-law, Jay Strauss, and their two children, Madison and Hunter Strauss of Bozeman, Mont.; and Susanna Plascencia, a high school exchange student from Hermosillo Sonora, Mexico, who lived with the Carr family and also was like a daughter to her.
Anyone who knew Sandy knows how much she loved to cook and to eat. Her chocolate chip cookies, pizzelles, pepperoni rolls, pierogies, bread balls / meatballs in her wedding soup and gnocchi were always perfect, each piece identical, and always "luscious."
She lived for her family and friends, including all her nieces and nephews and their children. And the ladies of the St. Elizabeth Hospital billing office, Kathy G., Mary D., Barb B. and Debbie S., just to name a few, where she worked for over a decade, were always able to make her laugh. The same could be said for high school gal pal, Jaclyn P., and dear family friend, Carol Z.
Sandy was no stranger to health issues; however, she was a survivor, a real fighter, who no matter what was thrown at her, persevered. She was kind and always thought to help those who had less than her. Although the last few years were a struggle, she remained fiercely loyal to her family, whose love kept her going, along with Hallmark and Lifetime movies, and crime dramas like "Law & Order."
Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the family has decided to schedule a memorial service at a later time, so everyone may attend safely and share their love for Sandy.
