Bernard J. “Pete” Bucheit Jr. 1932-2021

CLEVELAND — Bernard Joseph “Pete” Bucheit Jr., 89, of Cleveland, passed away Monday, Feb. 15, 2021, of natural causes.

He was born Jan. 9, 1932, in Youngstown to Bernard “Ben” Joseph Bucheit Sr. and Florence “Flossie” Joyce Bucheit.

He was president of the Bucheit Companies in Youngstown, where he oversaw local, state and international construction projects from 1968 until his retirement.

Pete graduated from Boardman High School in 1950 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Notre Dame University in 1954.

As a member of Youngstown Country Club, he was an avid golfer. He enjoyed traveling for both business and pleasure, and was always known as the life of the party. Pete embraced life and met challenges with integrity and a never-quit attitude.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Ann Bierdeman Bucheit; sons, Kurt of Hubbard and Erich of St. Paul, Minn.; daughter, Leisel of Washington, D.C.; and granddaughter, Emma of Hubbard. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by both parents; sisters, Marilyn “Mogie” Mahoney and Joyce Courtney; his nephews, Donald Mahoney Jr., John Mahoney and Michael Jaminet; and his former wife, Patricia Jaminet.

He will be fondly remembered by many lifelong friends and all who loved him.
