Thelma J. Watterson 1926-2021

LIBERTY — Thelma J. Watterson, 94, passed away Tuesday morning, Jan. 12, 2021, at Shepherd of the Valley in Liberty.

Thelma was born on May 15, 1926, in Apollo, Pa. She was a daughter of Joseph and Hester Powell Klingensmith.

Upon graduation, she worked as a secretary in Washington , D.C., and later in Pittsburgh and Youngstown.

Thelma was a lifelong member of Christ Church Presbyterian, where she was a member of the Presbyterian Women Organization, Lydia Circle and a past deaconess. Thelma enjoyed painting, reading, sewing, golfing, and, most of all, playing cards. During her life, she enjoyed traveling to various parts of the country and visiting with family.

Thelma married her husband, Thomas, on Dec. 21, 1946. They celebrated 52 years of marriage prior to his death on June 2, 1999.

She is survived by her three sons, Donald (Gerry) of Sinking Springs, Pa., Richard (Diane) of Newton Falls and Joseph (Val) of Discovery Bay, Calif. Thelma also leaves seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas; a son, Dennis; and three brothers, Kenneth, Joseph and Leon Klingensmith.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, private services will be held for the family.

Funeral arrangements have been conducted by Szabo and Sons Funeral Home.
