Winston Davis 1941-2020

YOUNGSTOWN –Mr. Winston Davis, 79, transitioned to eternal rest Sunday, Dec. 6, 2020.
Mr. Davis was born Oct. 3, 1941, in Youngstown, a son of George and Calenthe Davis. He lived in Smokey Hollow on the East Side of Youngstown and attended East High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1959 and served until 1962. After an honorable discharge from the service, he resided in Los Angeles, Calif., where he was a certified licensed appliance technician and worked for 36 years with Sears, retiring in 1996. Winston took pride in the fact that he serviced many famous, professional people and movie stars while in Hollywood.
Upon returning to Youngstown in 1996, Winston immediately started his entrepreneur business as a service technician/repair person. He also worked part time at Park Vista Retirement Center and later was a security guard.
Winston was a proud veteran and was a man of few words. He always said what he meant and meant what he said. Winston had a very strong work ethic and belief. Winston would always say, and I quote, ” If a man shall not work, he shall not eat.” Thessalonians 3:10
Winston was of Baptist faith and attended Zion Hill Baptist Church. He enjoyed his daily trips to the Fifth Avenue McDonald’s, where he and the fellas enjoyed personal interaction roundtable discussions concerning the “Topic of the Day Events.” He enjoyed billiards, wrestling , boxing, watching “60 Minutes” and was an avid Oakland Raiders football fan.
He leaves to cherish his memory, two children, JoAnne Wright of Youngstown and Muriel Lisa Davis of Gardena, Calif.; four grandchildren, Schaune Wright of Columbus, Lonyae Jones, Jamari Pruitt and Sanai Davis, all of Gardena, Calif.; two sisters, Calenthe Emma Counts and Rosetta Davis, both of Shreveport, La.; special nephews, Dr. James N. Logan of Long Beach, Calif., who was the only family member who relocated to California with him, and Phillip Davis of Girard, who assisted him through his illness; special friend, Curtis Young; the Fifth Avenue McDonald’s fellas and a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends .
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Edna Q. Hopkins, Leola B. Collins, Gussie M. Payne and Mary L. Logan; and six brothers, George, James, Frank, Leroy, Wilkie and Edward Davis.
Private services were held. There will be a memorial service planned for Winston in the future, once the pandemic is clear.
Arrangements were entrusted to the L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home.
