Robert L. Morris 1929-2020

AUSTINTOWN — Robert “Bob” Lee Morris, 90, passed away Monday, Aug. 3, 2020, at the Cleveland Clinic.

Bob was born Nov. 15, 1929, in Mineral Ridge, the son of Edward and Mary Elizabeth Bickerstaff Morris. He was a lifelong resident of Mineral Ridge and Austintown.

Bob graduated from Mineral Ridge High School in 1947. He was an Army veteran, having proudly served his country from 1951 to 1953.

Bob owned and operated a Sinclair (later Arco and Texaco) service station in Mineral Ridge for 23 years. He then worked in maintenance for Ohio Edison until his retirement. His favorite “job” in retirement was helping his daughter in her catering business and he was affectionately known as her “delivery boy.”

His interests included baseball, bowling, flower gardening, taking care of his “four-legged friends,” and in earlier years, fishing in Canada while vacationing with his family. Bob, along with his brother, Glen “Moe” Morris, and his friend, Marv McBride, started the Hot Stove Baseball League in the Ridge.

He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Niles. He also had been a member of the Odd Fellows and the Austintown Optimist Club.

In addition to his parents and his in-laws, Arthur “Shorty” and Liz Stephens, Bob was preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas (Elnora), Glen and Chuck; and brothers-in-law, Bob Milligan and Jack (Jo Ann) Stephens.

Bob leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 67 years, Sally Stephens Morris; three sons, Steve (Dee), Jere (Tracey) and Chris (Gail); one daughter, Robynn; and seven grandchildren. He also leaves his sister, Janet Milligan; sister-in-law, Virginia Morris; numerous nephews and nieces; and so very many friends.

“Bobby from the Ridge” was loved by all who knew him and he was a loyal friend to all.

Visitation will be Monday, Aug. 10, 2020, from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 3:15 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Niles, 26 E. Church St., Niles, OH 44446.

In lieu of flowers, tributes may be made to the First Baptist Church of Niles.
