Donald R. Moler 1930-2020

GIRARD — Donald Raymond Moler, 90, a researcher and inventor, died Monday, July 20, 2020.

Born in Girard in 1930 and raised in Niles, Donald graduated from Niles McKinley High School in 1949. He enlisted in the Navy in 1951, where he served on the destroyer USS Turner, DDR 834.

Don had an impressive career in the fields of electronics, communications and physics, working alongside distinguished colleagues at Goodyear Aircraft, Hamner Electronics, RCA, Yale University, Bell Laboratories and Magnetic Analysis. He contributed to the Mace and Matador missile program, the Nimbus weather satellite, and the Tokamak Fusion Test Reactors at Princeton University and MIT.

He was active in politics at the local and national levels, and had many hobbies, including ham radio, inventing, fishing, the Trumbull Canoe Club, camping and spending time with family and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Judy; his brother, Lewis; and sister, Tracene.

He is survived by his brother, Lawrence; and his sisters, Phyllis Jobes and Kathleen Kozora; his children, Donna Hall, Gregory Moler, Todd Moler and Vonnie Mrva; and grandchildren, Lindsay, Gregory, Scott, Jane, Nadija, Mateja, Jeremy, Foster and Henry.

The family will receive relatives and friends Friday, July 24, 2020, from 11 a.m. to noon at Lane Funeral Home, Mineral Ridge Chapel. A funeral service will be held immediately following at noon at the funeral home. In keeping with current practices, social distancing will be observed, and masks must be worn.
