KNOXVILLE, Iowa -- Raymond Harold Blewitt Sr., 82, died Friday, June 5, 2020, at his residence.
He was born June 27, 1937, in Toronto, Ohio, to parents Walter and Mary Frances Blewitt. Raymond grew up in Youngstown, Ohio, and graduated from high school in 1955.
After high school, Raymond enlisted in the Air Force in 1956. He was united in marriage to Bonnie Mae Kindley on July 16, 1961, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Raymond proudly served his country for 28 years and retired in 1984 as senior master sergeant.
After his service, Raymond worked in civil service for about 19 years. The family lived in many states and a few countries during that time. Raymond was an avid Cleveland Browns fan, enjoyed fishing, John Wayne movies, bowling and traveling. He was a military historian, member of the American Legion and loved his grandchildren.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Bonnie Blewitt of Knoxville; daughter, Debbie Dron of Knoxville; son, Raymond (Angela) Blewitt Jr. of Enid, Okla.; one sister, Wanda Wineberger; five grandchildren, Sarah Dron, Stephanie (Jeremy) Harper, Ashton Blewitt (Bo Kent), Haley (Dylan) Spaulding and Nicholas Blewitt; and one great-granddaughter, Charlotte.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Mary Blewitt, and one sister, Beverly Patterson.
Memorials may be given in Raymond's memory to Alzheimer's Association or Disabled American Veterans.
A graveside memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, June 11, 2020, at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville.
