Donald E. Booty Sr. 1931-2020

YOUNGSTOWN — Donald E. Booty Sr., 88, passed away Sunday afternoon, June 28, 2020, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Born Aug. 27, 1931, in Salem, raised in Struthers, he graduated Struthers High School in 1949.

Donald proudly served in the United States Air Force and Navy. He marched in parades for a number of years with his Amvets Unit No. 44.

After serving in the military, Don began his career with Modern Builders Supply as district manager, then district manager for Reynolds Metals Company, Kool-Vent, then vice president / partner in Vinyl Factory Outlet in Boardman, from where he later retired.

In his spare time, he enjoyed designing birdhouses and feeders in his workshop for friends and family, working the daily crossword and watching his favorite teams on TV, the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns. He even created a Facebook page recounting his days served in Tripoli, that now has over 800 members.

He cherished his faith and family and enjoyed attending church. He was truly an inspiration and a family man who would be there “no matter what.” His unconditional love made him the man he grew to be, loved by all and will be missed by all.

He leaves his cherished wife, the former Carol L. Heckert, whom he married Jan. 11, 1958; son, Shawn Booty Sr.; daughter, Cynthia (Brian) Shambaugh; grandchildren, Matthew (Erin) Shambaugh, Kurt (Kim Banks) Shambaugh and Shawn Booty Jr.; and great-grandchildren, Olivia Grace Shambaugh and Tanner Matthew Shambaugh.

He was preceded in death by his parents, the former Ella L. Bennett and Harry W. Booty Sr.; sister, Anna McLaughlin; brothers, Lee, Charles, Harry (Jr.), William, Robert and David; daughter, Cheryl L. Booty; son, Donald E. Booty Jr.; and grandson, Tyler Garrett Booty.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2020, with Pastor Wayne Wible officiating, at Blackstone Funeral Home, 672 Churchill Road, Girard, OH 44420. The family will receive relatives and friends noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Due to COVID-19, the 6-foot rule will be honored and guests whose health allows are asked to wear a mask. For the safety of everyone, we politely ask that all visitors do not linger at the funeral home after seeing the family.

Internment will be in Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna.

The family would like to thank the compassionate staff at Humility House (his home away from home) for their love and friendship during his time at the facility. As you work through your day, know that you are loved for the special care you provide to each of the residents.

Thank you also to the staff of the MICU Unit at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, for the gentle and compassionate care given to Don and his family.
