John C. Hunter 1941-2020

WEATHERFORD, Texas — John C. Hunter, 78, passed away March 19, 2020.

John was born in Youngstown, Ohio, Aug. 26, 1941. He was the son of the late John W. and Alice A. Hunter.

John was a graduate of East High School, where he was a member of the National Honor Society and of the 1958 East High School City Championship football team. John was consequently elected as a Youngstown Vindicator All-City Selection for football that year.

John continued his education by attending the University of Pittsburgh, Pa., where he was granted a full athletic scholarship. He graduated from Pitt in 1963. He furthered his academic accomplishments by obtaining his master of education degree in 1968. After teaching and coaching for several years at the University of Pittsburgh, Greensburg Campus, John continued his working career with Volkswagen of America, New Stanton, Pa. He worked from 1978 to 1992, transferring to Fort Worth, Texas in 1980. Subsequently, he was employed by Acme Brick Co, as manager of human resources from 1992 until his retirement in 2007.

John will be remembered by his friend and caregiver, Dollie Nolen; his son, John W. Hunter II; his granddaughter, Alexis Hall; his longtime friend, Linda D. Hunter of Weatherford; his nieces, Carla Christoff of New York, N.Y., Andrea Christoff of Cleveland, Ohio and Dana Christoff and Allison White of Youngstown; and his nephew, Richard H. White of Mansfield, Texas.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Christine Marie Hall, and his sisters, Dona White and Dorine O. Christoff.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2020, at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 N. Elm St., Weatherford.
