Evelyn Steele-Flickinger, 1943-2020

LAS VEGAS — Evelyn “Lyn” Steele-Flickinger, 76 years young, died peacefully in her sleep Sunday, Jan. 19, 2020.

Lyn was born May 6, 1943, in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of the late Roy and Margaret Tate.

Lyn graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. She had a strong work ethic all her life. She started her own housekeeping company, turning it into a highly successful business. Most of all, she was a loving caregiver to many family members over the years.

Lyn enjoyed the simple things in life, traveling to see family, being outdoors planting flowers and doing yard work, cooking, baking and decorating, especially for the holidays. There was never a loved one’s birthday or anniversary she forgot.

Lyn moved from Youngstown in 2013 and made her home in Brandon, Fla., to be closer to her son, Marc, and daughter-in-law, Tammy. She was heavily involved with her church and gave much of her time working with the homeless. She made many wonderful friends in Florida and enjoyed all their adventures together; she thought of them often.

In 2017, Lyn developed cancer. She moved to Las Vegas to again be closer to Marc and Tammy and enjoy their remaining years together. She fought hard and was always hopeful. No matter where she was, she always kept in contact with her Youngstown family, especially her brother, Roy, whose weekly phone calls she looked forward to up until the day of her passing.

Lyn’s fiery spirit, sense of humor and compassion will be missed dearly by her Ohio, Florida and Las Vegas families and of course, her “fur babies.”

She is survived by her sons, David of Atlanta, Ga. and Marc (Tammy) of Las Vegas; her daughter, Diane of Salem, Ohio; as well as her brother, Roy A. Tate Jr. of Youngstown.

A very special thank you to Tammy, Lyn’s constant companion and selfless caretaker throughout it all.

Besides her parents, Lyn was welcomed into heaven by her beloved son, Richie; brother, Les; and many other loved ones and friends who preceded her in passing.

A graveside service will take place 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020, at Lake Park Cemetery.

Arrangements handled by Kraft-Sussman Funeral and Cremation Services, Las Vegas.
