John J. Perkins Jr. 1937-2019

AUSTINTOWN — John “Jack” Joseph Perkins Jr., 82, passed into the arms of Jesus Dec. 25, 2019, at Hospice House, surrounded by his family.

Jack was born Jan. 10, 1937. He worked for the Schwebel Baking Company for 30 years before retiring. He then retired from the Cornersburg Giant Eagle after 12 years. Jack also drove cars to and from auctions for Fred Martin Ford.

Jack loved woodworking; he built beautiful bookcases and a cradle for his first-born grandson. He loved feeding the backyard wildlife; the deer would always wait for him to bring them out corn, and he enjoyed hand feeding the birds and squirrels. In his memory, please fill a birdfeeder, or sprinkle corn, peanuts and seeds for the wildlife.

Jack was a wonderful person, always ready with a smile and a joke. He genuinely loved everyone and couldn’t walk through a store without being stopped by someone who knew him. His family will love and miss him forever: Semper Fi, may he rest in eternal peace.

He leaves cherished memories to his beloved wife, Anastasia Milienu Perkins, whom he married May 22, 1963; his cherished and dedicated daughter, Katherine Perkins (Martin) Shaffer; a brother-in-law, Christ (Karin) Milienu of Indiana; three grandsons and their father of Chicago; a cousin, Michael (Doris) Menexis of Florida; and his cherished sheltie dog, Mac.

Laid to rest with Jack was his loyal dog, Dusty, and precious cat, Mocha.

Waiting to greet him in paradise with open arms were his father and mother, John Perkins and Carolyn Stilson Perkins Fron; his stepfather, Chester Fron; his sisters, Patricia (William) Hilles of Cambridge and Roxanne (Michael) List of Florida; his grandparents; and numerous uncles and aunts.

Jack was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, where a closed funeral Mass presided by Fr. Joe DeStafano was held Saturday, Dec. 28, 2019.

Jack was a proud and loyal Marine and never missed a chance to say, “Once a Marine, always a Marine.” The American Legion, Lake Post 737, provided the Military Honor Guard at the cemetery. Jack’s wife and family were greatly moved by the gun volley, playing of taps and the presentation of the American flag and spent shells.

Many thanks to the American Legion for their dedication to the families of veterans. Jack’s family would also like to sincerely thank the staff of Mercy Health and Hospice House for their excellent care and dedication.

Arrangements handled by Lane Family Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel.
