odd exit from Air Force One
WASHINGTON -- President Donald Trump slipped away from Air Force One after a recent summit in Turkey because the Secret Service and military wanted him on a "different plane" due to a threat, he told reporters after a trip to Ohio on Tuesday.
Trump's comments confirmed a report that first appeared in The Washington Post on Monday saying that Trump stowed away in an airport catering container to slip into another plane while Air Force One was sent into the sky out of Turkey, essentially as a decoy, just in case Iran made good on a credible threat of an attack.

in attack on vessel in strait
Authorities in Yemen say at least six people were killed when Iran-backed Houthi rebels fired missiles on a vessel in the Bab el-Mandeb strait.
The Transportation Ministry of Yemen's internationally recognized government said Tuesday the dead included four crew members and two members of the government-allied National Resistance Forces.
The deadly vessel strike came amid renewed attacks on government-controlled areas in Yemen, raising concerns that the violence could reignite civil war and further threaten regional shipping routes.
Thousands still missing
after quake in Colombia
PEREIRA, Colombia -- Crews searched through rubble Tuesday in Colombia after a powerful earthquake left thousands missing.
President Abelardo de la Espriella said Tuesday that at least 181 people died in the cities of Cali, Pereira, Choco and Manizales and thousands more were injured.
More than 1,000 buildings were destroyed in the 7.4 magnitude earthquake on Monday. De la Espriella has mobilized military and police resources, and soldiers, rescue teams, and volunteers are sifting through the rubble.
Choco, near the epicenter, is one of Colombia's poorest regions and hard to access. Other Latin American countries and the U.S. are providing aid.
Russia frees ex-US Marine
held captive for four years
WASHINGTON -- Russia has released an American military veteran, allowing his return to the U.S. after four years of what his family and U.S. officials allege was wrongful incarceration and abusive treatment that left him near death.
Robert Gilman was freed after President Donald Trump said he spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump said Gilman was released on humanitarian grounds and Russia asked for no one in exchange. The 32-year-old Massachusetts teacher and former Marine was en route to a hospital in Texas.
Darlene Graham advances
Sen. Darline Graham advanced to a runoff in South Carolina's special Republican primary Tuesday night to replace her late brother Lindsey Graham in the U.S. Senate. The first-time candidate will face U.S. Rep. Ralph Norman, who also emerged from a 10-way field in Tuesday's primary. The winner of the Aug. 25 runoff is expected to claim the U.S. Senate seat over the Democratic nominee.
