STARKE, Fla. (AP) — A Florida man who killed an 8-year-old girl and her grandmother on a night in which he drank heavily and used drugs has been executed. Authorities say 63-year-old Edward James was pronounced dead Thursday evening following a lethal injection at Florida State Prison. He made no last statement. It was Florida’s second execution this year and the fourth in the U.S. this week. James had pleaded guilty to the September 1993 slayings of 8-year-old Toni Neuner and her 58-year-old grandmother, Betty Dick. Court records show James was renting a room in Dick’s house near Orlando when he attacked them after drinking up to 24 beers and using drugs.
