YOUNGSTOWN - The apparent low bid for an improvement project to three main streets in the city is almost $300,000 under the estimated cost.
The city received two bids, which were opened Friday, for work to sections of Marshall Street, Salt Springs Road and North Belle Vista Avenue.
The apparent low bid of $1,335,469 came from Lindy Paving of New Galilee, Pa.
The city's estimate for the work was $1,624,233.
The other bid, from Shelly & Sands Inc. of North Jackson, was $1,668,010.
The city isn't paying anything toward the project, said Charles Shasho, deputy director of public works.
The federal government is covering 80% of the cost while the Ohio Public Works Commission is paying the remaining 20%, Shasho said.
"There's no local match," he said. "I try to set these up so we get the federal money first and then can get the OPWC to match the rest of it."
The work was initially to be done this year, but was pushed back to spring 2027.
The streets being resurfaced are:
Marshall Street from the bridge over the Mahoning River to Glenwood Avenue, Salt Springs Road from the Interstate 680 ramp to Steel Street, and North Belle Vista Avenue from Mahoning Avenue to Salt Springs Road.
