YOUNGSTOWN – Choffin Career & Technical Center is showcasing its continued commitment to student achievement with new artwork displayed across the building’s front entrance. The art celebrates the center’s third consecutive 5-star rating on the Ohio School Report Card.

Created by local muralist Pat McGlone of Overall Paint Co., the artwork features Choffin’s logo alongside five stars and the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce logo.

Choffin this fall earned the state’s highest overall rating on the Ohio School Report Card for the third consecutive year. The achievement reflects the center’s commitment to providing students with meaningful educational experiences, industry-aligned instruction, and opportunities that prepare students for success beyond high school, its officials said.

Among the center’s 2026 Ohio School Report Card highlights were a 97.2% technical skill attainment rate, a 99.8% technical assessment participation rate, and a 97.1% four-year graduation rate.

“Earning a 5-star rating for the third consecutive year is an incredible accomplishment for Choffin and a reflection of the consistency and commitment of our entire team,” said Dr. Michael Saville, director of Choffin Career & Technical Center.

“Our instructors and staff work every day to deliver engaging, industry-aligned instruction, while providing students with the hands-on experiences and support they need to succeed. This recognition reflects that collective effort and our commitment to preparing students for what comes next: education, employment, enlistment or entrepreneurship.”

As the only half-day career center in the Mahoning Valley, Choffin offers juniors and seniors the opportunity to jumpstart their careers while continuing their academics at their home high schools. Students spend half their day engaged in hands-on technical training across a range of industries, including healthcare, arts, skilled trades, business and entrepreneurship, public safety, and salon arts.

This model allows students to remain connected to their home schools and participate in extracurricular activities while gaining technical skills, industry credentials, and real-world experience that prepare them for their future goals.

The newly completed entrance artwork brings that achievement beyond the classroom, creating a prominent display of school pride for students, families, staff, and visitors.
