LIBERTY -- A Youngstown man has been charged after a woman accused him of throwing her off a porch after a verbal argument Monday.
Cody Gamertsfelder, 51, pleaded not guilty to a charge of domestic violence before Girard Municipal Court Judge Jeffery Adler on Tuesday.
According to a police report, officers were called to a Catherine Street residence after Gamertsfelder said his wife was out of control and had locked herself in the bedroom. Dispatchers received a separate call a short period later from a neighbor, who said the woman had called him and said Gamertsfelder had just assaulted her and she was scared.
Officers arrived on the scene and found a man sitting on the front porch watching football, and while walking up to it, noticed a wooden rocking chair that was flipped over, as well as fresh blood on the cement.
Two officers spoke with Gamertsfelder while the reporting officer spoke with the woman, noting she was bleeding profusely from an open cut on her forehead, right above her left eye, but she refused to be taken to the hospital, the report states.
The woman told the officer she and Gamertsfelder got into a verbal argument over Taco Bell, saying she wanted to eat earlier in the day.
She added that she had just wrecked Gamertsfelder's car and he was on edge from it, and she was in her bedroom when he went to get the food.
The woman said she went onto the front porch upon Gamertsfelder's return, and he began to "flip out", alleging that Gamertsfelder picked her up and threw her off of the front porch, the report states.
The report states the woman doesn't remember whether Gamertsfelder flipped the wooden chair over, or threw her off the porch first, adding that she thinks she lay on the ground for a few minutes before walking into the house and locking herself in the bedroom, calling her neighbor, who called 911.
The report states the woman was adamant that she did not trip on her own.
Officers spoke with Gamertsfelder, who said the woman was mad because he didn't bring her any food, adding that she came outside, slammed the front door, then flipped the wooden chair over.
Gamertsfelder said she then fell off the porch, according to the report, adding that nothing physical happened between the couple.
The woman signed a domestic violence form, and Gamertsfelder was placed under arrest.
Gamertsfelder is set to return to court Sept. 23, court records show, and he was released from jail the day of his initial court appearance.
