LIBERTY -- A Youngstown woman faces charges after she was accused of ramming a hotel with her vehicle early Friday.
Zayanna Dowd, 22, pleaded not guilty later in the day to a misdemeanor charge of aggravated menacing in front of Girard Municipal Court Judge Jeffery Adler. She also appeared on a charge of vandalism.
According to a police report, officers were called to the Days Inn on Liberty Street for an unrelated call, but a disturbance had happened there, and all involved people were gone by the time officers arrived.
Officers spoke with the hotel's manager, who said a woman rammed into the building with her vehicle in an attempt to run over a man, adding that she rammed into a large pillar outside of the building's front door after hitting the front siding, the report states.
The hotel manager showed officers phone footage of the vehicle hitting the building, adding he was standing in the entrance where Dowd was allegedly ramming -- in an attempt to hit or scare the man -- and that she continued despite the manager's shouts to stop.
The hotel manager said Dowd was the vehicle's driver and was staying at the hotel, but officers couldn't contact anyone in the rooms.
The report states officers saw Dowd pulling back into the hotel's parking lot, and she was detained with no issues.
The report states Dowd refused to speak with officers initially, but eventually spoke with one, explaining that she was staying with her friend, the man, and was going out to her vehicle to grab items from it when he came outside and an argument happened, and he accused her of leaving.
Officers noted the man was never identified or located.
Dowd told officers the man slapped her in the face, which prompted her to enter her vehicle and leave, but the man threw an object at her rear window and broke it.
Dowd said it made her upset, and she drove the vehicle the way she did to scare the man, adding that she did not see the hotel manager, despite him being next to the person she was targeting, the report states.
Dowd is due back in court Wednesday, and she was released from jail on bond, court records
show.
