WARREN -- Trumbull County commissioners are expected to vote today on contracts involving seven area school districts and the Trumbull County Sheriff's Office enabling sheriff's deputies to provide School Resource Officers through June 2027.
The school districts each will pay the sheriff's office $83,701.78. The deputies will provide the district's law enforcement protections during times when the schools are in session.
The districts seeking school resource officers are Joseph Badger, Bloomfield-Mespo, Bristol, Champion, John F. Kennedy, Newton Falls and Trumbull Career & Technical Center.
School districts have generally contracted with law enforcement agencies to provide security on the campuses and provide direct connections between students and sheriff deputies or police officers.
Contracts between the school districts and law enforcement agencies generally are designed so the districts are paying for all or a portion of the officers' salaries and equipment.
