WHAT: City council meeting Wednesday
PRESENT: Michael Patrick, Bob Deagan, Richard Bayus, Dallas Bigley, Lori Gomon, Megan Pingley, James Baluck, Megan Shorthouse and Mayor Catherine Cercone Miller
ABSENT: Robert Burnside
Council:
● Approved an ordinance redefining the boundaries of city council Wards 1, 2, 3 and 4.
● Heard the mayor's report detailing upcoming events in Struthers.
● Was informed the last Struthers Farmers Market of the season is Sunday.
● A bedding drive hosted by Brandy Eisenbraun and Councilwoman Megan Pingley is scheduled Oct. 10. Donations will go to the Struthers City School District.
● Heard that Struthers Parkside Church will host "5th quarters" for the last three home football games Oct. 2, Oct. 9 and Oct. 23. The events are aimed at middle schoolers and take place 9 to 11 p.m. Fridays. They include free food, music and simple Bible messages. They are not sponsored by the school district.
● Heard that Struthers Parkside Church also will host grief share groups on Thursdays through Dec. 10.
● Learned of a tree board meeting scheduled Oct. 5.
● Approved the city entering into a contract with Dynegy Energy Service East LLC to be the electric supplier for the city.
● Approved adjusting the sewage rates charged by the city from Jan. 1, 2024 to Dec. 31, 2024. The state auditor's office noticed that the city undercharged people's sewage rate by 50 cents in 2024. Instead of trying to regain that loss, city council retroactively amended the original two ordinances to keep their numbers straight.
