WHAT: Board of Education meeting Sept. 16

The board:
•Heard from Superintendent Christine Sawicki that the Lowellville Local School District will continue its partnership with the Cleveland Browns "Stay in the Game" attendance campaign, as well as its partnership with the Mahoning County Juvenile Court's traveling magistrate program. She said chronic absenteeism remains a significant challenge for the district. "We are committed to emphasizing the importance of good attendance and working with families to reduce barriers," Sawicki said.
•Approved financial reports, lists of bills and expenses paid and payroll for August.
•Approved the resignation of Jennifer Lane, central office secretary.
•Approved retroactively hiring Amber Hejduk as a cafeteria aide/cashier at $12.01 per hour.
•Approved the student activity anticipated budget and sales project potential forms.
•Approved the adoption of the Special Education Model Policies and Procedures that were released by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.
•Approved the contract between the Mahoning County Mental Health and Recovery Board and Lowellville Schools to engage in a collaboration, Project Aware Ohio, and the Mahoning County Mental Health and Recovery Board agrees to pay Lowellville Schools $27,500 for fiscal year 2027.
•Approved payment in lieu of transportation for the 2026-27 school year for student Carmen Jakubek, who will attend Holy Family Elementary School in Poland.
