LIBERTY -- A search for two men who were attempting to steal from a local business Monday night ended because of environmental conditions.
According to a police report, officers were called to The Nutrition Group on Belmont Avenue for a theft, and dispatchers said two individuals were trying to cut off catalytic converters and fled the scene.
Officers were met by the caller, who said he saw two men, one wearing a hoodie and the other a long-sleeve T-shirt, around a white work van in the facility's driveway, adding that he was working late and was leaving when he saw the men.
The caller said he confronted the men and yelled at them, leading them to run north over the nearby business's fence near the wooded area.
The report states an officer deployed a K-9 to assist in tracking the men, following them past a ton of self-storage containers and a lot full of trucks and RVs, which ended at Barkett's Self Storage, next to the alleged theft's original location, the report states.
An officer terminated the search because of environmental conditions, also noting ATV sounds coming from the north area of the woods, the report states.
Officers returned to the caller and asked whether there were working cameras, and he said there aren't any, but the company is working to upgrade them.
No items were reported stolen from either property, according to the report.
