LIBERTY -- Liberty police were called to a residence to help the U.S. Marshals Service fugitive task force apprehend a Youngstown man with active warrants Wednesday but nabbed another fugitive in the process.
According to a police report, a K-9 officer was requested to help the task force at a Warner Road residence, being informed that Matthew Centafanti, 38, was in the building and had active nationwide warrants for a parole violation.
He also has an active warrant through the Ohio State Highway Patrol for failure to comply. The officer noted that Centafanti is labeled as armed and dangerous with violent tendencies, having previous convictions for aggravated burglary, carrying concealed weapons and weapons under disability, the report states.
Officers met with the homeowner in the driveway, who consented to them entering the residence, and a police dog was deployed because of Centafanti's noted history.
Officers detained a man on the building's first floor outside of the residence and called for Centafanti, who ignored the verbal commands, but he surrendered from the residence's basement after he was told about the dog's presence.
The report states officers had information about a woman also hiding in the basement, Angel Savage, 34, of Youngstown, and she also surrendered to officers and was detained and removed from the building.
No firearms were located in the building, the report states.
The report states Savage, once outside, gave officers false information before suffering an apparent medical emergency. The Liberty Fire Department transported her to St.Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
Proper identification revealed Savage was also a wanted fugitive with an active drug possession warrant through the Mahoning County Sheriff's Office. She was also labeled as armed and dangerous with violent tendencies, the report states.
While the man apprehended on the building's first floor was released from custody, the report states Centafanti was transported to the Mahoning County Sheriff's Office.
