Hubbard welcomes new landmarks to school campus

Staff report

The Hubbard Exempted Village School District recently welcomed district leaders and community members to recognize donors whose funding was used to help beautify the Hubbard campus.

District officials have welcomed several new landmarks to campus, including two large "H" structures and a 10.5-foot hand-carved wooden eagle. Inspired in part by the iconic "Y" sculptures found throughout Youngstown State University's campus, Hubbard now has two H's of its own.

One H, located outside the Hubbard High School Auditorium, was donated by Hubbard alumna Holly Deibel and her husband Dave, owners of Boardman Steel, which is also the company behind the iconic "Y" sculptures found at YSU.

The second H, located at Hubbard Memorial Stadium, was donated by Joe and Pam Kerola, owners of P.I.&I Motor Express and both Hubbard High School graduates.

The district also received a 10.5-foot hand-carved wooden eagle, donated by Hubbard business owner JV Ferrara, who owns Julia's Bed & Breakfast and Pine Lakes Golf Course.

The massive eagle was transported by Pallante Concrete from Julia's down state Route 304 and brought to its new home near the corner of West Liberty Street and Westview Avenue.

Pallante Concrete, owned by Jim and Leslie Pallante, also donated concrete work for both H's and the eagle. Leslie is a Hubbard High School graduate, making the contribution a meaningful gift to the community.

The Hubbard High School Class of 2006 also contributed $1,250 toward the installation of these structures.

"We are incredibly grateful to each of these donors," Superintendent Raymond Solomon said. "These are more than just beautiful additions to our campus. They represent Hubbard pride.

"They show what can happen when alumni, families and local businesses come together to invest in a community and its schools. We are excited for our students to arrive Wednesday and see these new symbols of pride throughout their campus."
