WEATHERSFIELD -- One person and his pet died in a Friday morning fire at a mobile home park, Weathersfield Township fire Chief Tom Lambert confirmed.
Lambert said the first call for the fire came in as an explosion at Deforest Road.
Both the Howland and Weathersfield fire departments were dispatched to the site because the road is shared, with Howland firefighters reporting it was in Weathersfield once they arrived.
Lambert said both Howland and Weathersfield firefighters made an initial attack on the fire, finding the resident immediately in the back part of the structure.
Lambert said the man was taken to St. Joseph Warren Hospital with injuries from the fire, from which he later died.
The other resident of the mobile home was not home when it started.
The family also lost a cat, and the fire remains under investigated by the Ohio State fire marshal, according to Lambert.
No firefighters were injured.
"It's believed it started in the east end of the trailer; he was found in the west end of the trailer, so front and back," Lambert said. "Howland and Weathersfield worked together real good, and it went as good as it could, but unfortunately had a negative outcome for the homeowner."
