WARREN -- A Youngstown man pleaded not guilty Wednesday to criminal trespass and disorderly conduct, both low-level misdemeanors, following a run-in with a Warren police officer who would not allow him to re-enter Mollenkopf Stadium on Friday night in the second half of the Harding-Youngstown football game.
Ronald Davis, 61, returns for a second hearing in Warren Municipal Court at 10:15 a.m. Sept. 29. Judge Patricia Knepp set a personal recognizance bond for Davis.
A Warren police report states that a Warren officer was working the football game about 9:30 p.m. Friday on the visitor's side.
Davis approached the officer and "became irate and yelling at me, stating that the officer posted at the gate advised him that if he left the stadium for any reason he could not return," a police report states.
The report explains that the "rule Davis was referencing was put in place by the Warren City School District, and all officers were advised to strictly enforce this rule after halftime. Davis advised that since he was considered handicapped, he felt that he could be an exception to that rule and continued yelling at me."
Davis eventually left after many more insults and threats to take legal action, spitting all over the ground, the report states.
Davis then went to the outside of the visitor's gate, where others were also arguing to get back inside. The officer again told Davis he needed to leave and not come back. Davis argued with several officers and failed to leave the property.
The officer discussed it with a lieutenant, who told the officer to arrest Davis, which the officer did with help from two other officers. Davis was taken to the Trumbull County jail.
