Brother and sister carry on the breast cancer fight

CANFIELD -- In 2024, Canfield graduate Nick Folsom teamed up with then junior Hadley Moser to put on the first Pink Out Pickleball Tournament at Greasel Park.
The idea behind the event was to raise funds for Salem Regional Medical Center to be used in the fight against breast cancer.
Folsom had already researched the Teen Health and Medical Society clubs set up in various high schools around the country. He wanted to start a local chapter and managed to do just that with the help of Moser. The Pink Out Tournament was the club's main local fundraiser.
Folsom has since moved on and Moser is in college, but the families are still well represented with younger siblings picking up the torch.
Canfield High School sophomore Hudson Moser and junior Angelina Folsom have stepped up to keep the tournament going. With the help of the community, the event will happen Sunday at the Canfield Swim and Tennis Club.
"The swim club donated their pickleball courts for this year's tournament," Angelina said.

The school principals also have seen the importance of the new club's fundraising efforts. This year's proceeds are expected to top $10,000 again and will mean to date the club has raised more than $30,000 for Salem Regional Medical Center. Principal Sal Maiorana and Assistant Principal Mason Seachrist have helped get the Teen Health and Medical Society Club recognized as an official school club.
"We are expecting 30 teams this year," Hudson said.
The two event hosts (Angelina and Hudson) heard Salem Regional is looking at bringing club members in for a tour and possibly offering a job shadowing experience down the road.
For now, the focus is on the tournament and making it another successful fundraiser. The slogan for the event is "just bring a paddle to fight the battle."
