YOUNGSTOWN -- The aggravated murder trial of Vincent Marbley and Eddie Winphrie that was set to begin Monday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court has been postponed following the news that a new potential witness has come forward.
Judge R. Scott Krichbaum filed a judgment entry Monday stating that the trial is now set for Oct. 26 with a pretrial hearing one week before that.
The reason for the trial being postponed is that an inmate of the Mahoning County jail came forward recently to indicate that he has information relevant to the guilt or innocence of one of the defendants and later shared that information with law enforcement.
The entry states that the attorneys need time to further investigate the issues the inmate raised.
And secondly, the inmate's allegations required that defense attorney Tony Meranto be allowed to withdraw from representing Winphrie because Meranto also had represented the inmate.
The entry states that Krichbaum appointed attorney Rhys Cartwright-Jones to replace Meranto.
Winphrie and Marbley are accused in the Oct. 17, 2024, shooting death of Reynaldo Hernandez, 24, at a home on Bott Street on Youngstown's East Side.
