Five people with close ties to the Mahoning and Shenango valleys were among the nearly 3,000 killed in the terror attacks on the United States on Sept. 11, 2001. They are:
•Terence Michael Lynch, 49 -- A Youngstown native, graduate of Ursuline High School and Youngstown State University. He was working as a U.S. Army contractor when he was killed in the attack on the Pentagon.
•Catherine Patricia Salter, 37 - Born in East Liverpool and a graduate of nearby Wellsville High School in Columbiana County. She was working for Aon Corp. in the World Trade Center when she was killed.
• Ruth Ellen Ketler , 42- Born in Grove City, Pa., in Mercer County. She worked for Fiduciary Trust Co. International and died at the World Trade Center.
• Rebecca Lee Koborie, 48 - Born in Sharon, Pa., she worked for Marsh & McLennan and was killed at the World Trade Center.
• Ludwig John Picarro, 44 - Born in New Castle, Pa., he was a visiting employee from Zurich Financial Services at the Aon Corp. offices when he was killed at the World Trade Center.
