YOUNGSTOWN --The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction recently found the Mahoning County jail to be "fully compliant" with jail standards for 2026.
The facility was inspected July 8, and no standards were found to be noncompliant, according to a sheriff's news release.
The jail was found to be compliant with all 216 standards, including 55 "essential standards" and 161 "important standards."
The inspection focused on reception and release, classification, housing, sanitation, as well as environmental conditions, communication, visitation, medical and mental health services, food services, recreation and programming, inmate discipline, administrative segregation, grievance, staffing and staff training.
In his letter to Sheriff Jerry Greene, Joel Commins of the Bureau of Adult Detention, wrote: "Your dedication to maintaining safe, secure and well-run facilities is evidenced in the work you do each day," the release states.
In the release, Greene thanked the Mahoning County commissioners for their continuing support of the sheriff's office, as well as the work by the county's Facilities Department and VitalCore, the provider of medical services for inmates, and especially the work of his deputies -- in helping maintain high standards in the jail.
