WHAT: Board of education meeting Wednesday

PRESENT: Cheryl Basista, Mark Bodo, Sam Caputo, Josh Garris and Matt Glidewell

The board:

• Approved seeking bids for the planned $1.2 million addition for Seaborn Elementary School. Officials have said because of increased enrollment and plans to house special needs students within the district instead of at other locations throughout the county, the board approved moving forward with a 2,500-square-foot addition to Seaborn.. Dohar said the enrollment for grades kindergarten to sixth who are housed at the school has increased, and with special education students also to be housed at Seaborn, there is a need for more space. The $1 million project is set to begin this year and be completed at the end of the 2026-27 school year. DeSalvo Construction was hired as the project design builder. Treasurer Steve Haynie said the addition will be at the back of the school. Officials said the additional space will be used for programs that were housed off site so district students can now stay and learn at Seaborn.

• Swore in Glidewell as a new board member to finish the term of Tim Gleason who died in June at age 70. Glidewell will serve through December 31, 2027. Gleason had served on the school board for more than 12 years, holding positions as both president and vice president during his tenure.

• Announced band night will take place 7 p.m. Sept. 12 at the football stadium.

• Approved student lunch prices with a 25-cent increase with grades K-8 at $3 and 9-12 at $3.50 per lunch,

• Accepted the retirement of Lou Capitti effective July 31 as grounds and maintenance supervisor.

• Approved Donald Sarahs as an additional soccer coach due to an increase in soccer players. There will be a boys team and a girls team. The other coach is Worthy Cottrill.
