BOARDMAN -- Police are still looking for a man who led them on a foot chase through Applewood Acres on Wednesday evening.
While the official report redacted his name, Boardman Police Chief Todd Werth said Stacey Dwayne Mahone Jr., 24, of Boardman, is wanted on felony warrants out of his department.
A police report states that Mahone fled from his sister's vehicle and left residents in the Applewood area locking their doors as police pursued him with a dog. Mahone evaded arrest.
His sister, however, did not. Lee'Aysia L. Mahone, 26, also of Boardman, was booked on felony charges of failure to comply and obstruction and one first-degree misdemeanor count of endangering children.
The report states two officers saw Stacey Mahone walking out of Y-Smoke on Mathews Road, and recognized him as the same person wanted by police. He got into his sister's car and police tried to stop them before they left the plaza parking lot.
Lee'Aysia drove west down Mathews and police activated their lights and siren immediately. The report states she did not stop and reached 56 mph.
Near 455 Mathews Road -- Lee'Aysia's address, according to court records -- the car stopped in the road, the driver's-side rear door opened and Stacey Mahone exited the car and ran through a parking lot. One officer pursued him on foot while the other drove after Lee'Aysia.
The report states she was found a few minutes later in the driveway at 463 Mathews -- Stacey Mahone's address, according to court records -- and as police approached she drove around behind the apartment building.
The report states that when police confronted her at the rear of the building, she was taking a child out of the car. Lee'Aysia acknowledged driving the car throughout the pursuit.
She allegedly told police Stacey had been riding in the vehicle with her and her child. She said she first thought police were trying to stop "other people." When she realized they were pulling her over, she said Stacey told her to let him out of the vehicle. The report states she told police she knew Stacey had outstanding Boardman warrants but that he told her the warrants were "all taken care of."
Meanwhile, police pursued Stacey Mahone in Applewood Acres. Police said he climbed over a 6-foot privacy fence and they eventually lost sight of him near the 800 block of Larkridge Avenue.
Other Boardman officers established a perimeter and brought police dog Mako to track Mahone from the Larkridge area. Mako tracked through back yards toward Edenridge Drive, across toward Forest-Ridge Drive and Appleridge Drive. Officers lost the track near Forest-Ridge. They moved to an open-area search but were unable to locate Mahone.
Police determined Lee'Aysia had most likely hindered officers on purpose, and because at least one of Stacey's outstanding warrants was for a felony, that makes her alleged obstruction a fifth-degree felony.
The whole incident, from the attempted traffic stop to the end of the foot pursuit, lasted about 45 minutes, until 7:09 p.m.
Stacey Mahone is wanted for felony domestic violence charges from January and February, according to Mahoning County court records. He also pleaded guilty to domestic violence threats in 2023.
