Boy hurt in crash with police car

MINERAL RIDGE -- The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a crash between a juvenile pedestrian and a Weathersfield Township police vehicle that occurred at 12:50 p.m. Wednesday on Prospect Street east of state Route 46 in the township.

An unmarked 2016 Ford Explorer driven by a Weathersfield officer was traveling east on Prospect Street when a boy on foot northbound entered Prospect Street from the south side of the roadway into the lanes of travel and was struck, according to a news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The boy sustained minor injuries and was transported by a Weathersfield Township ambulance to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. The officer in the Ford Explorer was not injured.

The Weathersfield Township Administration building and police department are on Prospect Street.

The incident remains under investigation, according to the release, which was released at about 10 p.m. Wednesday.
