WARREN — Commissioners are expected to vote on using $200,000 in opioid funding it is receiving from various state and federal lawsuits to pay for recovery programs now being provided in the jail.

These programs are being funded by the Trumbull County Mental Health and Recovery Board. The board is looking to reinvest that money into its programs.

Currently, the recovery board receives $150,000 of its funding from Judge Thomas Campbell’s court and another $50,000 from the county’s opioid funds.

When questioned what would happen next year and in the future, they were told the program would seek new grant programs.

Sheriff Major Dave Bobby noted the county is required by state law to provide funding for recovery funding.

The jail has operated approximately 15 recovery programs for its inmates. Previous programs offered in the jail included a structured course examining positive decision-making and accountability; problem-solving and reentry skills; building healthy relationships with children; anger management, as well as peer support.

The jail is operating or planning to operate two additional programs looking at anger management and life management skills.

Commissioner Rick Hernandez noted he was told they have the ability.
