Home healthcare service fetes new site in Liberty

The move comes after he and his father, Mike, finalized the sale of their Mahoning Avenue building to move into an updated complex after 13 years at the Austintown location.

LIBERTY — Owners of a local provider of nonmedical home health care services expressed hopes to continue collaboration with different patients and clients — and a facility designed to facilitate that was celebrated Tuesday afternoon.

FirstLight Home Care of the Valley, joined by public officials and the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber, cut a ribbon to mark the opening of the relocation of its corporate offices to the Expand Health Medical Office Complex on Churchill Hubbard Road.

The move follows FirstLight owners Mike and Michael Senchak’s recent finalization of their Mahoning Avenue building’s sale — approximately 9 miles away in Austintown — after 13 years there.

The relocation will allow the group to more efficiently support caregivers and clients by situating them alongside essential medical partners, strengthening their integration within the local healthcare network and reinforcing their commitment to delivering quality, patient-focused healthcare, according to a news release.

“While we are grateful for our decade in Austintown, this new office in Liberty represents a significant step forward,” Mike said. “We are excited to welcome the community to our new space, which keeps us at the heart of the medical community and provides an even better environment for our hardworking staff and the families we serve.”

Michael echoed his dad’s support of their staff Tuesday, noting that their new location was good from a commuting standpoint.

“We’re just very proud of the team that we’ve built here — we’ve instilled in them to make decisions for clients like they make decisions for their own family,” Michael said. “And with that, the community has gotten behind us.”

Michael said FirstLight serves any adult that needs assistance at home, ranging from meal preparation to bathing individuals who wish to stay independent.

“Our normal population is older adults; however, anybody over the age of 18, we can serve, and we do have some cases that are disability cases,” Michael said. “We serve quite a population of veterans, and we’re very proud of that — we work with local veterans organizations to organize that care.”

Michael said his group spoke to several people in the community to understand its situation before choosing to move in.

“We were seeing what was going on — we were seeing redevelopment over in the Belmont (Avenue) area; Mercy (Health) had just opened a new facility,” Michael said. “The biggest thing for us, since this is really a home base and we service people at their home — (is) being close to our partners.”

“To be able to walk next door and have a conversation with a clinician about what’s going on at home, for a shared patient, is incredibly valuable.”

Trustee Arnie Clebone, one of the public officials present for the ribbon cutting, said the new location is “beautiful.”

“This is inspiring — we’re getting people to reinvest in Liberty, and maybe it’s a result of them seeing we’re doing things,” Clebone said. “This is a great, great company, a great service, and it’s a service people need, home care.”
